The Pope is dead and the cardinals rush to Rome for the conclave to elect a new leader for the Catholic Church. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) has his hands full leading the proceedings. Not an easy task, as the cardinals haggle over power and money while the faithful wait outside for the white smoke. Behind the closed doors of the Sistine Chapel, meanwhile, worlds collide. There is Cardinal Bellini (Stanley Tucci) from the late Pope’s camp, who is considered liberal, and the arch-conservative Cardinal Tedesco (Sergio Castellitto). And Adeyemi (Lucian Msamati) from Nigeria, Trembley (John Lithgow) from Quebec and Benitez (Carlos Diehz) from Kabul are also vying for the top position …
